Groups

Beginning in May, Helson will be offering a 10-week group for teens (ages 14-19) using the popular game Dungeons & Dragons as a way to teach social skills, manage depression and anxiety, build confidence and self-esteem, and improve impulse control.

This group is for children who struggle to engage with people in new social situations, who may over think and struggle to make decisions, who may have difficulty motivating themselves, and struggle to create boundaries and manage conflicts.

Sessions will be approximately 2 hours long, in person, and will address how to explore emotion regulation, conflict management, confidence and self esteem building, etc., while in a game setting that has been evidenced to translate to skills outside of game settings.

Each two hour session will be $80 ($800 total). Each participant will be provided with character sheets, writing utensils, and dice to be used throughout the 10 week course, however it is recommended once they create their character they purchase a set of dice that they feel relates to their character (no more than $10/$15). Participants will have homework assignments throughout the program to be completed between sessions.

Space is limited to 6 participants per group. Additional groups may be offered due to interest. Tentative start date, Saturday 5/4 and the last day is 7/6. Please reach out to Helson via with any questions about your childs’ eligibility and to register for the group.
