Alex Johnson, ATR-BC, LPC
Board-Certified Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor
Alex is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist. She has experience working with people of all ages with a variety of life challenges including depression, stress, anxiety, trauma and abuse, anger, life changes and transitions, and has experience with neurodiverse individuals and people who are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Alex earned her Master’s Degree from Drexel University and has worked in settings including schools, inpatient adult and pediatric psychiatric hospitals, outpatient programs, grief programs, and after school social skills programs.
Alex’s counseling style is relaxed and accepting with the goal that her clients feel safe, heard, and better able to explore their emotions and reach their goals. Her treatment approach is client-centered and collaborative and she often utilizes humor, art and play, mindfulness, relaxation skills, identifying existing strengths to motivate change and growth, treating the whole person, and skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
As an Art Therapist, Alex is trained to use art in counseling sessions in order to provide an alternate form of expression when emotions, thoughts, and experiences are too difficult to put into words. Art therapy can also be used to help achieve nearly any therapy goal, including: decrease stress and anxiety, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, create emotional resilience, and improve insight. If clients are interested in engaging in art therapy, Alex loves to open others to the healing power of art and creating! When not working, Alex loves to create her own artwork, enjoys working out, goes to as many concerts as she can, and spends time with her friends, family, husband, daughter, and two cats.
Alex is licensed to provide therapy to clients located in Pennsylvania.
